You should unpack your parcel as soon as it arrives and open up the packets. We advise that all bulbs and plants are planted as soon as possible while fresh. Storing them for weeks can result in the bulbs naturally deteriorating. If you are unable to plant them straight away, you can usually store them for a short while. Store the bulbs in open packets in a cool, airy place which is free from rodents. You can read more about bulbs and what to do when they arrive in our blog post Flower bulbs — a guide to bulb planting and care.

We want you to get the best out of your bulbs and plants, so we provide full planting instructions for all varieties on our planting instructions page. Simply select the plant type from the spring or autumn plant lists to find out how to get them off to a good start. You'll also find tips on how to care for them through the season.

This very much depends on the type of bulb you have. Some return year after year, and others are treated as annuals. Generally speaking, it is best to deadhead all flowering bulbs once they have finished flowering, and allow the full stem and leaves to turn yellow or die back completely. Whilst green, the leaves and stem are feeding the bulb for next year. Our blog post Flower bulbs — a guide to bulb planting and care provides some helpful tips about bulb aftercare.

Bulbs and plants are a living product and need to be planted within the same season that they are supplied, ideally as soon as possible. Bulbs and plants naturally start to deteriorate over time if they remain unplanted, and will not store until the following season or year.

Planting for colour which lasts throughout the year involves choosing a selection of varieties with different flowering times. Varieties from our spring range typically flower in summer and autumn. Varieties from our autumn range typically flower in winter and spring. You can use the flowering time filter to narrow down the selection and choose varieties which provide colour at specific times of the year. You can find lots more information in our blog post How to achieve year-round colour with bulbs & plants.
