Cactus Dahlias

Cactus Dahlias are the group that makes you wonder if a lot of colourful spiders (or perhaps celestial bodies) have descended on your garden, because of their spiky appearance. The lower petals of Cactus Dahlias are quilled or revolute – they curl back on themselves, forming tubular spikes that radiate from the centre of the flower. In the full Cactus Dahlias category, the tubular section of the petals is not as long, and the floret or centre ball of the flower is wider than in the semi-cactus category. Flowers on either can be as small as 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inch) wide, or reach 20 to 25 cm (8 to 10 inch) in the larger bloomed semi-Cactus Dahlias category.
