Description
There’s something almost orchid-like about Amaryllis 'Papilio' (or Hippeastrum papilio) and its large exotic-looking blooms. Multiple flowers are produced per stem and, typically of butterfly amaryllis, multiple stems are produced per bulb. The overall display when this Hippeastrum is in full swing is spectacular, and the pale green petals which are complemented by streaks of deep burgundy look chic in any setting. This is a bulb to grow indoors and enjoy to the full during winter, either as a highlight in an exotic indoor jungle or as a standalone centrepiece.
Keep your green fingers busy during the winter months by growing Hippeastrum 'Papilio' in the comfort (and warmth) of your own home. If you love gardening but miss pottering in the garden during winter, growing an indoor plant which will flower spectacularly during the winter months is a truly satisfying option. They’re very simple to plant and produce reliable results, with blooms typically bursting forth somewhere between December and March.
Synonyms include Hippeastrum 'Papillio', Hippeastrum papilio 'Butterfly' and Amaryllis papilio.
