Collection: Clematis bare roots

Clematis are the ultimate climbing plants, perfect for adding height, colour, and charm to your garden. Whether trained up fences, arches, or pergolas, they bring a stunning floral display from late spring to autumn. With their elegant blooms and lush foliage, Clematis create a striking focal point in any space. These easy-to-grow climbers thrive in borders and containers, making them a versatile choice for gardens of all sizes. Many Clematis varieties are also pollinator-friendly, attracting bees and butterflies throughout the season.

Some Clematis (sometimes called leather flower or traveller's joy) may be grown through bushy shrubs where they will support themselves, on the branches. Or you could allow them to trail over a bank or through other perennials. Or, they could be trained up through a structure, such as an obelisk. Flowers are nodding, bell- or saucer-shaped, depending on which type of perennial Clematis you are growing. You may also find that, after the flowers have faded, they are replaced by attractive fluffy seedheads.

All Clematis like a spot in full sun, and a well-drained, humus-rich soil. This means that before you plant, you should prepare the ground by digging it over, and incorporating some well-rotted organic matter, or soil conditioner.
