Forms of Heliopsis, known as the False Sunflower, are care-free perennial plants. Reliable for their very long season of bloom, most form mid-height or tall, bushy clumps of dark green leaves, bearing branching heads of large, single or double daisy flowers. They also make an outstanding cut flower. These plants require no special care. If height control is needed, they may be cut back by one-half in late spring, before flowering. They should not require staking. Removing faded flowers regularly will greatly extend the blooming season. Plants may be divided in early spring or autumn. Looking particularly good in massed plantings, the warm yellows, golds and oranges of Heliopsis blend well with purple Echinacea (Coneflowers), Eupatorium (Joe Pye Weed), Salvia and even the similarly-coloured bright oranges and yellows of Gaillardia. Heliopsis may be divided every 4 years or so, in spring or autumn!
