Arching, pendulous stems with bright flowers over an extremely long season are the main features of boliviensis begonias. These plants are perfect for hanging baskets or pots where the stems can tumble and cascade down the front or sides. Flowers generally start in June, and continue right through summer and until the first frosts of autumn. Each of the green leaves, from above, look like angel-wings. In the wild, this species of begonia hails from Argentina, where it can be found hanging from the tops of shady cliffs. Plants generally form clumps up to 60cm / 24" high and wide, with numerous blooming stems, heavy with flowers in shades from deep yellow to almost crimson. These begonias like a moist but well-drained soil – they do not like their roots languishing in cold, wet soil!
