Description

Peer inside a kaleidoscope and you’ll see satisfying symmetry and a collage of colour, just like this Jacob’s ladder, Polemonium 'Kaleidoscope'. The ladder-like leaf arrangement is what gives this beautiful plant its common name, and it’s not just the perfect parallels which make this hardy perennial so pleasing to the eye. The leaves of Polemonium 'Kaleidoscope' change colour through the season, starting with a pink margin in spring which fades to cream in summer, edging the soft-green middle. At the top of those many flights of stepped leaves is a pretty panoply of pale purple flowers which appear from late spring and last into summer.

With a slightly spreading habit, Polemonium yezoense 'Kaleidoscope' can form an affective and incredibly beautiful ground cover when planted in groups. The lower leaves form quite a wide base and from each clump emerges upright flower spikes up to 60cm tall, giving this plant height too. Bees love the nectar-rich flowers of Jacob’s ladder, the added buzz of life makes it extra enjoyable.
