Description
Candyfloss pink with a fruity red blush, Gladiolus 'Cherry Candy' produces huge, sumptuous flowers perfect for a soft, pastel pink colour scheme. At 1.2m tall, this magnificent variety is most at home woven through the back of a border, though Gladiolus 'Cherry Candy' would also make an impressive container centrepiece with a little support and a few lower growing companions nestled at its feet. Statuesque yet elegant—a rare find!
This member of the iris family hails from warmer climes than ours, and therefore welcomes added protection from the UK winter weather. In milder areas, or those with very light, free-draining soil, this can be just a thick layer of mulch. In chillier spots, or on heavy, wet soil, your best bet is to lift and store the Gladiolus 'Cherry Candy' corms over winter, much as you would dahlia tubers. Take your cue from the leaves, which naturally die back in autumn and let you know when it’s time to pop them out of the ground or pot.
