Description
Plant Alstroemeria 'Nicolas' in your garden and prepare to be besotted with its gold and peach-toned radiance! This Peruvian lily is a hardy, clump forming perennial which will be the light and life of the summer border with a resplendent, enduring display of tropical-looking blooms which begin to burst forth in June and keep going well into autumn. Deep-red dashes freckle the petals of 'Nicolas' to create a flashy pattern which will catch the eye and reel you in to admire up close every time you pass by!
With long, upright stems of up to 70cm, Alstroemeria 'Nicolas' has good height for a position in the middle of a border. Its incredibly long-lasting flowers make this indispensable in summer bouquets. Top Alstroemeria tips for cut-flower growers: pull the stems from the base rather than cutting them as this will promote more flower production through summer. 'Nicolas' peruvian lilies are best grown in a sheltered, sunny spot with well-drained soil. Fully hardy and rarely troubled by pests or disease, they are low maintenance and easy to grow plants which will return year after year. The clump will spread slightly every year, producing a greater number of flower stems each time.

Useful information
-
Soak your Alstroemeria 'Nicolas' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Peruvian lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
