Description
Bathe summer borders in the gentle glow of this exquisite Peruvian lily, Alstroemeria 'Brissac'. Sunset shades of coral pink and orange contrast with a dazzling flash of gold that radiates from the centre of each bloom. The stems are cloaked from top to bottom in slender green leaves, each topped with orchid-like flowers which start in June and often last well into autumn. Alstroemeria are much-loved florists’ blooms, making legendary cut-flowers. The garden-worthy variety 'Brissac' has been bred for a compact habit. The shorter stems make it well suited to containers or planting in groups towards the front of borders.
With South American origins and exotic good looks, you could be fooled into thinking that Alstroemeria 'Brissac' needs careful cossetting. However, this resilient beauty is tougher than it looks, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C once established! Peruvian lilies are always at their best in a sheltered, sunny spot on well-drained soil where they flower enthusiastically for many months each summer.

Soak your Alstroemeria 'Brissac' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Peruvian lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
