Description

If you like your plants to be easy to grow and virtually self-sufficient, Roscoea purpurea is a variety you simply must try! Thriving in shade and fully hardy during winter throughout most of the UK, this little lilac wonder is a real gem and absolutely perfect for bringing a dash of summer colour to those tricky shady spaces. Also, being perennial, they’ll treat you to a delightful reappearance every summer for years to come!

Small plants like these are subtle but splendid and also incredibly useful for tucking into the nooks and crannies of the garden. Plant the tuberous perennials in spring and from July onwards they’ll pop up with a neat clump of fresh-green foliage and elegant violet-like flowers. Originating from the Himalayan mountains, these vigorous and reliable alpines feel most at home in a rockery under dappled shade, but also do well in a cool, damp border or patio pot.

Please note that Roscoea purpurea are sensitive tuberous roots and need to be planted deep enough as soon as they arrive so they can establish.
