Description
Find a space for Polemonium 'Brise d'Anjou' in dappled or part shade and enjoy watching this Jacob’s Ladder escalate into something beautifully special for your summer planting scheme. The unusual, variegated leaves of green and gold really define the ladder-like effect which adds texture as well as bicolour to the space. These attractive leaves eventually form a lush ground cover which lasts through the growing season, and they’re also stepped in several flights along its upright stems. To top it all off, Polemonium 'Brise d'Anjou' gives a sweet early to mid-summer show of pale lavender blue flowers which will bring a third colour to the mix, and pollinators will make a beeline for them too.
The best place to plant Polemonium 'Brise d'Anjou' is in a border with a free-draining, rich soil which is unlikely to completely dry out – a position in the flickering shadows of trees is ideal. As this hardy and low-maintenance, clump-forming perennial establishes, the lower leaves will spread gently, without taking over, and eventually forms an effective and attractive summer ground cover.
Polemonium caeruleum 'Brise d'Anjou' is also known as Polemonium caeruleum 'Blanjou'.
The roots of Jacob's ladder were used in traditional medicines to treat kidney problems.

Useful information
-
Soak the Polemonium 'Brise d'Anjou' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Jacob's ladder" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
