Description
You can be doing yourself a double favour by planting Liatris spicata (often called Gayfeather or Blazing Star), in your garden. Not only will this plant help you resolve certain problems with your garden landscape, it might even help you heal your body. The plant is claimed to have medicinal properties that can assist with certain problems by the Native American people. As a candidate to change garden problems like shape, height and dead zones, Liatris spicata is the best!
Long liatris flower stems shoot 90 to 120 cm (3 to 4 feet) into the air carrying hundreds of tiny pinkish florets which open in sequence from the top downwards.
Gracy knows:
"Liatris spicata ('Gayfeather') is extremely hardy and its cut flowers have a very long vase life!"

Useful information
-
Soak the Liatris spicata roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Gayfeather" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
