Rocking alternative looks with a wild, frizzy mop of green hair-like strands, this one is bound to make heads turn. Its all-over grassy green tone gives it a subtle edge which combines well with flowers of virtually any other colour, yet its chunky size and shameless, wacky appeal make it a great one to show off as a centerpiece. It’s fair to say this Allium has its own unique style, but it pulls it off perfectly!
Not only does this funny character look great in the garden, but it’s a brilliant cut flower too. Grow a big group of Allium 'Catweazle' so you can snip some stems to use in funky arrangements and they’ll reward you with a full and long-lasting display. Allium 'Catweazle' look particularly good combined with traditional purple alliums, be it in a cut flower arrangement or border planting scheme.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, two to three times their own height deep. A slightly flattened side is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
Space small bulbs around 5cm apart. Larger bulbs need more room, generally around twice their own width apart, so their foliage and flowers can develop freely.
Water after planting if the soil is dry, then only when needed. After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally. Decorative seedheads can remain in place.
