Description

Here's a good one for all the sunny coastal gardens out there—Urginea maritima, also known as Sea Squill, is from the rocky, coastal climate of the Mediterranean and is very commonly seen out there, so it might even remind you of your holidays too! The tall upright flower spikes are densely packed with attractive white star-like blooms, dotted in the centre with intricate lime-green anthers and growing on a deep purple stem. Urginea maritima is not often seen in the UK—grow this rare and unusual plant in your garden and you'll be making a real talking point.

Urginea maritima is quite hardy and will be reliable in the warmer areas of the UK. It loves a stony, rocky surrounding and enjoys basking in full sun, tolerating exposed conditions and poor soil.

Once they’re established, each bulb can produce multiple flowering stems, which is perfect if you want to grow a few clumps and use some as cut flowers. As you can imagine—they look amazing in a tall vase!
