Collection: Coronet/crown tulips

Coronet tulips give the familiar tulip cup an intriguing sculptural shape. Also called crown tulips, they have fluted, curled petals that create the outline of a small crown. Folds and ripples catch the light differently across each flower, bringing extra depth to both single-coloured and patterned varieties. Their unusual form is easy to appreciate in a simple planting, where repeated blooms can be seen together without too many competing shapes. Plant coronet tulip bulbs in a favourite container or a group near the front of a border, and enjoy the detail as the flowers gradually open.

Crown tulips are also lovely for cutting, lending structure and texture to arrangements with just a few stems. Pair them with smooth, rounded tulips in a related shade, or let one variety fill a vase on its own. Flowering time and height depend on the cultivar, so use individual descriptions to plan combinations that develop together. Plant coronet tulip bulbs in autumn in well-drained soil or deep pots filled with peat-free compost. Water when needed during active growth, allowing containers to drain freely. For gardeners drawn to unusual flowers, coronet tulips offer a distinctive shape with plenty of character in both borders and bouquets.
