Collection: Leucojum bulbs
Leucojum bulbs produce graceful, nodding white flowers, each bell delicately marked with fresh green at the petal tips. Commonly known as snowflakes, these refined spring bulbs resemble snowdrops but carry larger, more rounded flowers, often with several blooms hanging from each stem. Their slender green foliage and gently arching stems give them a wonderfully natural appearance, bringing quiet beauty to the garden as winter gives way to spring.
Our Leucojum bulbs are ideal for naturalistic borders, woodland-style planting and areas where the soil remains reasonably moist. They look especially lovely planted in generous groups beneath deciduous trees, beside ponds or woven among ferns and early-flowering perennials. Leucojum vernum, the spring snowflake, flowers from late winter into early spring, while Leucojum aestivum follows later in spring despite being commonly called the summer snowflake. Both combine beautifully with narcissi, hellebores, muscari and other early bulbs.
Plant Leucojum bulbs in autumn in moisture-retentive yet well-drained soil, allowing them to remain undisturbed once established. These fully hardy bulbs gradually settle into their surroundings and can form increasingly generous clumps where conditions suit them. After flowering, leave the foliage to turn yellow and die back naturally, helping the bulbs replenish their reserves for the following year. Elegant, reliable and easy to place, leucojums bring lasting charm to borders and informal planting schemes without ever looking overdone.
