As we so often remind keen gardeners, spring can really be divided into three flowering seasons. Those who hope to extend their spring colour display would be well-advised to choose early, mid and late-season tulips. Double Late Tulips round off your spring bulb season with an explosion of colourful petals, and although some categorise Double Lates in the same category as Peony-flowered Tulips, we feel that their flowering time differentiates them sufficiently to distinguish them in a class of their own. The flowers are very large and very long lasting, often persisting into the early summer. It’s by far not the largest category of Tulips, but a look at the varieties on offer will be enough to confirm that they are worthy choices for a spectacular garden.
