Description
Grow the vision of total grace and beauty that is Miscanthus 'Lady in Red'. Plant it in a prairie style garden, let it mingle in a mixed border or make a centrepiece with it in a gravel garden – this ornamental grass is so gorgeous it’ll look great wherever you choose to flaunt it. Enjoy the startling red foliage which develops its intense colour through the season and then watch in awe as the fluffy white flowerheads of Miscanthus 'Lady in Red' burst forth towards the end of summer, lasting into the golden months of autumn to and bring a shimmering, gentle movement and sparkle to the garden.
Once established, Miscanthus 'Lady in Red' is an impressive and incredibly low maintenance plant. It is a hardy perennial grass which forms a clump-like root system. Each year as the root system grows, the plant produced more leaves and flowers. After a few years, it reaches its full established size, standing beautifully poised at approximately 1.2m tall. Commonly known as Chinese silver grass or Red elephant grass, the shimmering flowerheads make a real statement and add a certain softness to your garden. Not only do they last through autumn in the garden, Miscanthus 'Lady in Red' often still looks great in winter and you can also use them for wreath making or to add to autumn floral arrangements.
This red ornamental grass not only adds beauty and texture to gardens but also serves as an eco-friendly biomass for renewable energy in the UK.

Useful information
-
Soak the Miscanthus 'Lady in Red' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Red elephant grass" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
