Description
Leontopodium 'Blossom of Snow' brings the quiet romance of the Alps into the garden, without demanding a mountaineering expedition to appreciate it. This charming edelweiss forms neat clumps of narrow, grey-green leaves, their softly felted texture providing a cool, silvery foil for summer colour. Above the foliage, prolific heads of white flowers appear, each one framed by star-shaped white bracts that give Leontopodium 'Blossom of Snow' its distinctive, snow-dusted look. Compact, refined and full of character, it is a lovely choice for rock gardens, gravel planting, raised beds or the front of a sunny border, where its pale tones can catch the light.
Best in full sun and sharply drained soil, Leontopodium 'Blossom of Snow' is happiest where conditions are lean rather than lush, so there is no need to fuss over it too much. Its crisp white bracts and muted foliage combine beautifully with thyme, alpine pinks, dwarf grasses and other drought-tolerant perennials, creating a naturalistic scheme with a touch of mountain poise. Leontopodium 'Blossom of Snow' also works well in containers, particularly with gravel mulch to keep the crown dry and show off the foliage. Elegant rather than showy, Leontopodium alpinum 'Blossom of Snow' offers lasting texture, pollinator-friendly flowers and a cool, collected beauty that feels wonderfully timeless.

Useful information
-
Soak the Leontopodium 'Blossom of Snow' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Edelweiss" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
