Description
Hydrangea 'Better Belle' is a medium-sized panicle hydrangea with a bushy, upright habit and the elegant, rounded flowerheads many gardeners adore in 'Annabelle', but with some very useful improvements. Its sturdy branches carry large, robust, almost spherical white blooms that remain upright rather than collapsing at the first sign of weather with opinions. As autumn arrives, the flowers of Hydrangea 'Better Belle' soften to a gentle pink, extending the display with real grace. With lower water needs than many arborescens types and foliage that is not prone to the common leaf spot issues often seen in 'Annabelle' styles, Hydrangea 'Better Belle' is as practical as it is pretty.
Plant Hydrangea 'Better Belle' in fertile, well-drained soil, in sun or partial shade, where its strong stems and handsome flowerheads can bring easy structure to borders or larger containers. The white-to-pink flowers combine beautifully with ornamental grasses, purple salvias, late-season perennials and evergreen shrubs, creating a scheme that feels polished from summer into autumn. Its reliable habit makes Hydrangea 'Better Belle' a fine choice for gardeners who love the soft romance of rounded hydrangea blooms but would rather not spend the season propping them up. Strong, elegant and pleasingly sensible, Hydrangea paniculata 'Better Belle' lives up to its name.

Useful information
-
Soak the Hydrangea 'Better Belle' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
