Description
Heat-up the late season with a fiery frenzy of Helenium 'Ranchera' flowers! This easy-to-grow and compact perennial fills its space with a blaze of burnt orange-red blooms which burst into action in late summer, extending the season of interest into autumn. Not only does it provide a toasty display of colour, but it will provide valuable late-season nectar for bees so they can fill up before winter hibernation. Don't let your summer end abruptly—make the most of those golden months of September and October with a fresh flourish of blooms. Helenium 'Ranchera' is one of a number of heleniums (also known as sneezeweed) in a series known as the Mariachi Series, named because their colours reflect the hot sunshine of Mexico and Central America.
With a compact and bushy habit, Helenium autumnale 'Ranchera' is sturdy and tidy. It will be very happy towards the middle or front of a sunny border or in a large container. Its perennial and fully hardy nature means that it will grow back each year, and will be more vigorous and prolific each time. If you need more late-season colour in your life, try combining this sneezeweed with Echinacea, Rudbeckia, and Sedum too!

Useful information
-
Soak your Helenium 'Ranchera' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Sneezeweed" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
