Description
Eryngium 'Neptune's Gold' is a sea holly with the volume turned up, pairing electric blue, thistle-like flower heads with intensely golden-yellow, spiky foliage. Known as the first golden-leaved eryngium, this striking perennial brings a bold flash of colour and texture to sunny borders, gravel gardens and prairie-style planting. The foliage and flower bracts of Eryngium 'Neptune's Gold' emerge yellow-green to gold, creating a brilliant contrast as the rounded blue flower heads develop in summer. Architectural, unusual and pleasingly dramatic, Eryngium 'Neptune's Gold' is perfect for adding definition among softer perennials and ornamental grasses.
Despite its rather theatrical colouring, Eryngium 'Neptune's Gold' is a practical, resilient choice for gardeners who like their plants distinctive but not demanding. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, where the golden foliage keeps its intensity and the blue flowers take on their strongest, most metallic tones. The spiny bracts give excellent structure, while the decorative seedheads continue the display into winter, looking especially good touched with frost. Plant Eryngium 'Neptune's Gold' with echinacea, salvias, achilleas or airy grasses for a confident contemporary scheme. Fierce in colour yet elegant in shape, Eryngium 'Neptune's Gold' is a true garden conversation starter.

Useful information
-
Soak the Eryngium 'Neptune's Gold' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Golden-leaved sea holly" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
