Description
Campanula portenschlagiana, or wall bellflower, is a charming perennial that adds both beauty and versatility to your garden. This low-growing variety forms a neat evergreen mound of small green leaves, offering year-round interest. In late spring and early summer, it produces clusters of funnel-shaped, violet-blue to purple flowers that create a striking contrast against the lush foliage. With a compact height of just 15cm, Campanula portenschlagiana is perfect for the front of borders, rockeries, or even cascading over walls, bringing a touch of elegance wherever it's planted.
What makes Campanula portenschlagiana truly stand out is its resilience and ability to thrive in challenging spots. Ideal for sunny, well-drained areas, this hardy perennial is perfect for filling gaps, softening hard landscaping, or planting in crevices. Not only does it brighten up your garden during its flowering period, but its evergreen nature ensures it remains attractive year-round. This variety’s reliability and beauty have earned it the RHS Award of Garden Merit, making it a tried and tested favourite for gardeners. If you’re after a low-maintenance, long-lasting plant that adds a splash of colour, Campanula portenschlagiana is the perfect choice.
Our Campanula portenschlagiana plants are supplied as a root ball with healthy growth, ensuring a strong start. They are carefully shipped in our unique cardboard box, designed to keep them safe and in top condition. This ensures they arrive healthy and ready to thrive in their new home.
Campanula portenschlagiana is known as wall bellflower because it loves to spill from walls and cracks, creating a cascade of cheerful purple bells.

Useful information
-
Soak your Campanula portenschlagiana roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Wall bellflower" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
