Description
Our 'Fringed Friends' Begonia collection consists of two free-flowering colours, each producing masses of magnificent and large, ruffled, double flowers, up to 10-22cm across. The petals are beautifully crimped at their edges, making the blooms easily mistaken for extra-large carnations. These sturdy plants flower throughout summer and until the first frosts of autumn. Compact and heat-tolerant, these fimbriata begonias deserve a prominent place in your hanging baskets, windowboxes, patio containers and flowerbeds!
Begonia 'Fimbriata Ruffled Salmon' produces blooms of a gorgeous shade of soft coral-salmon. It is the slightly larger of our two Ruffled varieties which means that, if they are planted together, you can create a stunning tiered effect. The slightly shorter Begonia 'Fimbriata Ruffled Red' has fiery scarlet-red petals that stand out so beautifully from the deep green, wavy leaves.

Useful information

Begonia collection 'Fringed Friends' tubers are tender and require protection from frost. For best results, start them off in temporary pots in a greenhouse in March or April to give them a head start. They can then be transplanted outside in May.
Begonia tubers can also be planted directly outside into borders or containers in May.
When planting in containers, multipurpose compost is the ideal choice of growing medium.
Plant the Begonia collection 'Fringed Friends' tubers shallowly with the dipped side facing upwards—the top of the tuber should be around 1-2cm below the soil surface.
Space the tubers around 15-20cm apart from each other in a container display, or 20-30cm apart in borders.
Water-in thoroughly after planting and water regularly while in full growth. Don't allow them to sit in wet soil while still dormant.
