Description
Achillea 'Short Red' proves that you don’t need to be tall to make a statement. At just around 30-40cm high, this compact yarrow is perfect for the front of borders, edging paths, or tucking into containers—bringing all the charm of taller achilleas, just in a neater package. Its finely divided, ferny foliage creates a soft, textured base, while leafy stems carry flat-topped flower heads up to 10cm across. Each cluster is made up of dozens of small, vivid red blooms that seem to hover like a landing pad for pollinators.
Despite its modest height, Achillea millefolium 'Short Red' is every bit as tough and dependable as its taller relatives. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerates drought once established, and adds a long-lasting splash of colour from early to late summer. Achillea 'Short Red' pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses, blues, and silvers, and its compact form makes it particularly useful where space is tight or you’re after a more restrained look. It’s also a favourite with bees and butterflies, offering nectar-rich blooms and a tidy habit. For gardeners who love Achilleas but don’t want the height, Achillea 'Short Red' delivers all the benefits in a more manageable size—bold, bright, and beautifully behaved.
Our Achillea 'Short Red' plants are supplied as a root ball with healthy growth, ensuring a strong start. They are carefully shipped in our unique cardboard box, designed to keep them safe and in top condition. This ensures they arrive healthy and ready to thrive in their new home.
Achillea millefolium is called yarrow, from Old English gearwe, and was once a battlefield herb used to stop bleeding fast.

Useful information
-
Soak your Achillea 'Short Red' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Yarrow" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
