Description
Erupting into a blizzard of snowy blooms in mid-summer, Thalictrum ‘Splendide White’ bursts forth with cool flower-flurry effect. Dainty little white flowers adorn the almost invisible, wiry, narrow stems which extend upwards above the foliage, making this floral cloud appear to hover. Reaching a height of up to 2m when fully established, this magnificent meadow rue froths up above surrounding plants like a beautiful misty haze. Make it a muted part of a bright border, or mingle into a pretty pastel scheme.
Thalictrum ‘Splendide White’ is a useful plant for gardens which have clay soil because they quite enjoy moist conditions. Meadow Rue will thrive in a partially shaded or sunny border where it will grow back every year. This hardy perennial forms a clump over time which, as it establishes, produces more and more flowering stems. Soak your Thalictrum 'Splendide White' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "White Chinese meadow-rue" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
