Description

Sun-soaked planting spaces can be tricky for some plants, but drought tolerant Potentilla 'Red Giant' takes hot, dry conditions in its stride, requiring very little maintenance through the year to put on a great show of summer blooms. What’s useful about red flowers in sunny areas is that they maintain their colour intensity, whereas paler-flowered plants can end up looking bleached or just don’t stand out in those high light levels. If you’re after an easy plant which will provide summer colour whilst not taking too much of your time, a cinquefoil like Potentilla 'Red Giant' is a great choice.

Not only does Potentilla 'Red Giant' thrive in dry conditions, it also has the useful trait of coping in poor soil too. You can plant them in rockeries, gravel gardens and coastal areas with sandy soil and they’ll usually do well. This low-growing plant also looks works well at the front of a sunny border with any free-draining soil. While cinquefoil are typically very undemanding plants, you should help your Potentilla 'Red Giant' bare roots to settle in well by giving them regular water to begin with.
