Description
Enjoy a pastel colour show with Polemonium 'Stairway to Heaven' as it covers bare soil with its blissfully beautiful foliage and delicate spring blooms. Awkward spaces between plants and shrubs needn’t be bare and boring, they can be illuminated with variegated, colour-changing foliage! In cool temperatures, the leaves adopt a pink hue, throwing a third colour into the mix. In spring, dainty silvery-blue flowers add yet another level of interest.
As a ground cover, Polemonium 'Stairway to Heaven' is effective without taking over—it gradually pads out a bare space with cushiony pillows of soft foliage and cloud-like blooms as it slowly stretches out its stems covered with ladder-like leaves. Jacob's ladder is suitable for growing in most conditions and soil types, and is happiest in a position in dappled shade.
Polemonium reptans 'Stairway to Heaven' is ideal for filling spaces between shrubs or small trees, where it will bring spring and summer colour where there would otherwise be bare soil.
The common name Jacob's ladder comes from the biblical story of a dream Jacob, son of Isaac, had of a ladder ascending to heaven.

Useful information
-
Soak your Polemonium 'Stairway to Heaven' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Jacob's ladder" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
