With silky ruffled petals and a doe-eyed mauve-tinged centre, it’s hard not to adore the prolific and alluring nature of this total softie. Despite her cottage-garden charm, you’ll find that intersectional (Itoh) Peony 'Cora Louise' sits very well within any style. So you don’t have to have extensive grounds and wide herbaceous borders to enjoy its charm, it’s perfectly versatile and looks just as good in a contemporary container too!
This stunning itoh peony produces very large, pure white, semi-double flowers, opening to reveal mauve flushes on the petals, all surrounding a cluster of gold stamens. You could easily have as many as 50 flowers on a mature plant, and they are held well above the leaves on strong, upright stems.
Peony 'Cora Louise' will flower for several weeks, thanks to a regular supply of side buds which open, one after the other. And, this plant will not need staking. It’s a mid-season variety, meaning that it will flower in late spring and early summer. Also, as if all this is not enough, the flowers are delicately fragrant.

Remove the packaging straight away, check the compost and water thoroughly if dry. Check the plant’s hardiness before placing it outdoors. Plant into a border or permanent container within a month, choosing the position recommended for the variety. Keep the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil, firm gently and water well.
Soak the roots in water for three to six hours immediately before planting. Keep any crown, buds or emerging shoots above the water where possible.
Pot most bare roots into 15–20cm pots filled with peat-free multipurpose compost. Large or depth-sensitive roots, including peonies, are often best planted directly into borders.
Arrange the roots naturally without bending them. Cover the roots completely, positioning the crown and buds at the depth recommended for that particular perennial.
Keep pots in a sheltered outdoor position and water whenever the compost begins to dry. Grow on until roots hold the compost together when lifted from the pot.
Plant into a suitable border or permanent container once well rooted. Add a label and water regularly throughout the first growing season while the perennial establishes.
