Description
Garden trends come and go, but the passion for intensely dark flowers is here to stay! This glamorous Iris sibirica 'Purplelicious' is one of the deepest purple Siberian iris we’ve seen. If you're seeking enigmatic, shadowy varieties to bring contrast to late spring borders, look no further. From May to June, the pointed buds of this beauty will appear on stiffly upright stems, erupting in an opulence of rich amethyst petals. Dark veins create a fascinating tracery across each velvety bloom, and the base of each petal splashed with glimmering indigo for a head-turning contrast. The slender, grassy foliage of Iris sibirica 'Purplelicious' forms an understated backdrop, so you can focus entirely on the extravagant flower-heads which make striking cut flowers.
Plant this hardy, clump-forming perennial in damp borders which won't dry out in summer, although its best to avoid poorly drained or waterlogged soils. Choose a sunny position where its jewel-like colours can really shine. Despite its luxuriant appearance, Iris sibirica 'Purplelicious', is no diva in the border. A quick tidy up at the end of the season is all that’s required to keep this undemanding perennial happy. Over the years it will form a dense clump which can be divided when it becomes overcrowded. Reaching around 75cm tall, this glitzy Siberian iris makes a showy choice for waterside plantings, of mingling among a froth of early summer perennials where its upright stature adds useful structure to planting schemes.

Useful information
-
Soak your Iris 'Purplelicious' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Siberian iris" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
