Description
Hosta 'Hands Up' is a small to medium-sized plantain lily. It is a tetraploid hybrid, very similar to the highly popular cultivar 'Praying Hands'. However, being tetraploid, it is more compact, has thicker leaves, and has a noticeably wider yellow edge to the leaves, which enhance the uniquely upright folded growth. The centre of the leaves is a rich, dark green. The pale lavender funnel-shaped flowers, on tall stalks, are also larger than 'Praying Hands', making them more visible against the curiously twisted leaves. Mature clumps may be easily divided in the spring or autumn.
Hosta 'Hands Up' is bred in the Netherlands by one of Europe's leading hosta producers, Marco Fransen, this is a fabulous, quirky and unusual hosta that always sells out quickly when taken to flower shows. This popular and desirable plantain lily has received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
