Description
Pillar-box red is not a common colour for coneflowers, which is what makes Echinacea 'Postman' so unique. To add a little extra sovereignty there’s even a slight hint of a gold on those elegant downward petals, along with a big bronze-hued cone in the centre of each flower. This variety is fairly short and stocky, strong and usually self supporting, making it a good choice for towards the front of a border. Like most postmen, this perennial is hardy, reliable, resilient and will keep going in all weathers!
The toasty red colouring of Echinacea 'Postman' combines well with other warm colours, such as orange and yellow. For an eye -popping contrast, pair it with purple or blue, such as Verbena 'Lollipop' or Geranium 'Rozanne'. Expect bees and butterflies to visit, because they love these nectar-rich blooms! Coneflowers love to be planted in a sunny spot where they will grow back every year, eventually establishing a generous clump which produces more stems each time.
This fiery flower is a real showstopper! Echinacea 'Postman' is a perennial coneflower with true red blooms and a central brown cone that is sure to garner attention. The slightly drooping ray petals make it all the more eye-catching, especially when it's planted en masse in the border or in a container display. Echinacea 'Postman' blooms for a long time, so you can enjoy the vibrant colours for weeks! It's the perfect way to add a splash of colour to any garden.
Plant Echinacea 'Postman' in a spot in sun where it can easily be seen. Note that it is around 50cm tall and will bush out as it gradually forms a wider clump over the years. It’s a gem in a mixed border with other summer flowering perennials and easily combines with most colours. You can create a really bright display, or go for a more muted, hazy look by planting these coneflowers with ornamental grasses.

Useful information
-
Soak your Echinacea 'Postman' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Coneflower" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
