Description
Cortaderia selloana, more commonly known as pampas grass, is a striking addition to any garden, with its dramatic evergreen leaves and towering, feathery plumes. Reaching up to 2.5m in height, this tufted perennial grass creates a striking vertical accent that stands out in borders, lawns, or even as a bold focal point in larger spaces. The long, plume-like panicles of glistening silver-white spikelets often have a hint of pink, catching the light and adding a touch of elegance and drama to your outdoor landscape. Cortaderia selloana isn’t just a pretty face—it’s a plant that commands attention.
What makes Cortaderia selloana even more impressive is its ability to thrive in a range of conditions. Preferring sunny spots and well-drained soil, it’s ideal for creating a bold statement in your garden with minimal effort. While it may look dramatic, this hardy perennial pampas grass is surprisingly low-maintenance, requiring little more than a trim in early spring to keep it looking its best. Whether you're planting it as a feature in a contemporary garden or using it as a dramatic backdrop in a more natural setting, Cortaderia selloana is sure to bring flair, texture, and a touch of grandeur to your garden.
Our Cortaderia selloana plants are supplied as a root ball with healthy growth, ensuring a strong start. They are carefully shipped in our unique cardboard box, designed to keep them safe and in top condition. This ensures they arrive healthy and ready to thrive in their new home.
Cortaderia selloana gets the name pampas grass from Argentina’s windy plains, where its tall, feathery plumes sway like elegant dancers in the breeze!

Useful information
-
Soak your Cortaderia selloana roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Pampas grass" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
