Description
Clematis 'The Vagabond' is a wanderer in name but a steadfast performer in the garden, gracing its surroundings with richly coloured blooms not once, but twice a year. Its striking flowers, spanning 10-15cm across, are composed of six to eight deep purple sepals, each adorned with a bold reddish-maroon bar running down the centre. The dramatic blooms of 'The Vagabond' are further enhanced by contrasting cream-yellow anthers perched on green-white filaments, creating a captivating display. Flowering in early summer before making a welcome return in late summer and autumn, Clematis 'The Vagabond' ensures that garden interest never wanes.
Compact yet vigorous, Clematis 'The Vagabond' is ideal for smaller spaces, thriving on fences, trellises, or even in a container with the right support. Its blooms stand out beautifully against dark green foliage, offering a rich and regal presence. This variety flourishes in sun or partial shade, rewarding minimal care with a generous show. A light prune after its first flush and a harder cut in late winter keeps it thriving season after season. With its bold colours and repeat performance, Clematis 'The Vagabond' proves that even the most free-spirited plants can be wonderfully reliable.
Clematis 'The Vagabond' is supplied as a pip with a well-developed root system, ready to thrive in your garden. You can see an example of a pip in the last image.

Useful information
-
Soak your Clematis 'The Vagabond' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Climbing leather flower" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
