Description
Ignite a new plant passion this year, grow Clematis 'New Love' in your borders and enjoy the characteristic blooms and long-flowering period of this popular genus, but in a compact and bushy, self-supporting form. Producing sweetly fragrant, hyacinth-shaped blooms in a cool shade of lavender-blue from July through to autumn, the dreamy herbaceous Clematis 'New Love' is low maintenance and brings big rewards every year. We’re sure you’ll be head over heels in love with this charming beauty!
Clematis or leather flowers are well-known to be climbing plants, but this variety is bushy and compact. The lightly scented flowers of Clematis 'New Love' are held on rigid stems above a bushy mound of foliage—this is not a climber but a small sub shrub. Growing to around 90cm tall, it still brings interest to a good height, yet does so without the need for an obelisk or trellis—it can just sit in a border and do its thing! Clematis 'New Love' makes great ground cover or middle-border feature, combining well with many other perennial plants such as Crocosmia, Salvia, and Monarda. Pruning group 3—cut back to 25cm in early spring.
During the Victorian era, Clematis symbolized mental beauty and intelligence, as its fragile flowers were believed to mirror the intricate mechanisms of the mind.

Useful information
-
Soak your Clematis 'New Love' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Leather flower" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
