Description
Illuminate a bare space with gold and green-striped Carex 'Evergold'. This evergreen ornamental grass brings zesty tones of lemon and lime to the garden in the form of narrow, bushy tufts of foliage throughout the year. As an added plus, this Japanese sedge is very low maintenance and copes well with drought—once it's established it will require very little of your time! Combine Carex oshimensis 'Evergold' with other ornamental grasses in a sunny border, brighten up a shaded bare space around shrubs, or utilise its leaf-appeal in a jungle-themed planting scheme for added texture and vibrancy.
This relatively compact grass is a clump-forming perennial and gradually spreads out to fill its space. Typically growing to around 30cm tall, it’s suitable for growing in pots as well as borders. Growing well in sun or partial shade, Carex 'Evergold' is small enough to tuck into spaces around shrubs where direct sunlight is typically more obscured and where it can brighten up what would otherwise be a boring, bare space.

Useful information
-
Soak the Carex 'Evergold' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Japanese sedge" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
