Description
If you fancy something a little special, try this white Campanula glomerata var. alba. From May to July, and then again until autumn, densely-packed clusters of upright, pure white bells sit atop short, leafy stems, above a slowing creeping carpet of soft dark green, heart-shaped leaves. When at its best, it is nothing short of breath-taking. If dead-headed promptly there will probably be a smaller, second flush. In summer, the spreading foliage of campanulas can be used as weed suppressing ground cover.
All campanulas are easy to grow and require little attention other than cutting back when flowering has finished. Whether you grow Campanula glomerata var. alba at the front of a bed or border, or in a patio container (it grows to a height of just 40-60cm) you will not be disappointed. Just make sure the soil is moist but well-drained. Oh, and this white campanula makes a wonderful cut flower to be enjoyed in the home, too.

Soak the Campanula glomerata var. alba roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Bellflower" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
