Description
Turn up the tropical vibes in your garden with exotic-looking Alstroemeria 'Marguerite'! If you only have space for one Peruvian Lily, you’ll want it to have the flamboyance and flower power of this one. These spectacular bi-colour blooms are a beautiful buttery yellow with dramatic red stripes. The golden inner petals of Alstroemeria 'Marguerite' with dashes of wine-red freckles give these gorgeous blooms the exotic appearance that is so characteristic of Peruvian lilies. Flowering through most of summer and often into autumn, the fact that this plant is actually hardy and easy to grow makes its glamorous good-looks even more enjoyable!
Peruvian lilies are clump-forming hardy perennials and when they’re happy in their conditions they will thrive, growing back from a slightly larger clump each year. If you like growing flowers to make indoor arrangements, once alstroemerias are established in your garden you’ll reap the benefits with a fantastic source of cutting material over the summer months. Whilst Alstroemeria 'Marguerite' maintains a good, useful stem length for cut flowers, this compact variety is an improvement on traditional very long-stemmed cultivars, forming a much neater habit which stays strong in sunny, sheltered gardens.

Useful information
-
Soak the Alstroemeria 'Marguerite' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Peruvian lily" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
