Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Sweet Sixteen'
Among the very first to announce the season, Tulip 'Sweet Sixteen' brings a gentle warmth to the early spring garden. This elegant Fosteriana tulip opens in a soft pink, each bloom of Tulip 'Sweet Sixteen' delicately edged in a paler blush that catches the light beautifully. As the days pass, the colour of Tulip 'Sweet Sixteen' gradually softens, fading to a refined pastel pink that feels both calm and timeless. Its flowers are generously proportioned, held on sturdy stems that rise with quiet confidence above fresh green foliage. There is an understated charm to Tulip 'Sweet Sixteen', making it a natural choice for those who favour early colour with a light, romantic touch.
Reliable and unfussy, Tulip 'Sweet Sixteen' performs particularly well in sunny borders, where its early blooms can be appreciated just as the garden begins to awaken. Planted in groups, Tulip 'Sweet Sixteen' creates a soft wash of pink that pairs effortlessly with white narcissi or early blue companions such as muscari. It is equally suited to containers, where its changing tones can be enjoyed up close from day to day. As a cut flower, Tulip 'Sweet Sixteen' continues its gentle transformation indoors, bringing a sense of quiet optimism to spring arrangements. For an early display that feels both fresh and graceful, Tulip 'Sweet Sixteen' is a truly lovely addition.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
