Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
Do you want something that is really going to give your garden a novel look in spring, and make a move away from the traditional to the exotic in colour choice? Pay some attention to the Tulip 'Slawa' (a.k.a. 'Muvota'), a triumph tulip that will put some real punch into your colour scheme! From a deep purplish brown centre, the petals fade to copper coloured edges which turn almost a silvery colour as the bloom matures.
Use these tulips as a group or as an accent among other Tulips that flower in mid to late spring. You won’t be sorry! Tulip Slawa is considered to be what we call a "strain" of Tulip 'Gavota'. Tulip 'Slawa' was discovered in the Tulip 'Gavota' fields by accident. We knew this would be a winner and started hybridizing this variety. After many years, we are proud to present Tulip Slawa to the UK market.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
