Description
Tulip 'Salmon Gem' is a pretty botanical tulip with an unusual colour combination. Its chalky salmon-blushed outer petals hide a zesty clementine-orange interior, creating delightful contrasts. When these sweet blooms are closed, you can just see hints of the sunshiny colour within from the tops of the pointy petals. Tulip 'Salmon Gem' open up fully in the sun to reveal that welcome hit of vitamin-C infused colour, just the pick-me-up needed for a spring boost! The strappy linear grey-green foliage compliments these diminutive tulips, which like many botanical species have small flowers about 6cm wide and reach a height of 15-20cm.
Botanical tulips are becoming increasingly popular, with many gardeners valuing their diminutive form, reliability and value for wildlife. Hailing from the mountains of Uzbekistan, Tulip batalinii 'Salmon Gem' loves a well-draining spot that bakes in summer, so it makes an excellent choice for rockeries, sloping sites, banks and sunny borders. In the right conditions, this tulip will come back year after year, and naturalises gradually. Its small stature also makes it a great subject for pots, just give it a gritty, free-draining compost mix to keep it happy. Blooming in mid spring, the adorable Tulip 'Salmon Gem' is just the thing to lift your mood and bring a little sunshine to your day.
