Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Ridgedale'
Smouldering with depth and nuance, Tulip 'Ridgedale' brings a richly layered palette to the late spring garden. Its large blooms open in tones that drift between warm brown, cerise pink and a subtle wash of apricot beneath, giving each flower of Tulip 'Ridgedale' a quietly complex character. As the petals unfurl, they form generous, open bowls edged with the gentlest ruffle, catching the light and revealing ever-changing shades within. Flowering later in the season, Tulip 'Ridgedale' extends the tulip display with a sense of maturity and warmth, offering something a little more unexpected for those drawn to deeper, more atmospheric colours.
Best enjoyed in generous drifts, Tulip 'Ridgedale' creates a tapestry of burnished tones that pair beautifully with soft pinks, dusky purples or fresh greens. Its sturdy stems support those expansive blooms with ease, making Tulip 'Ridgedale' as practical as it is beautiful. Be sure to plant more than you think you need, as Tulip 'Ridgedale' is particularly rewarding as a cut flower, bringing its warm, painterly hues indoors. In borders or large containers, it settles comfortably into planting schemes that favour richness and depth, offering a refined alternative to brighter spring shades.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
