Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.

While most of us are inclined to think of tulips as big-bloomed beauties that must be replanted every year, the wild tulips, or botanical tulips, are true perennials. What their blooms lack in size, they make up for in their prolific flowering, and next year, they’ll pop up for a repeat performance. Tulip humilis 'Norah' falls into this group, and though this low-growing plant variety isn’t among the tulip aristocracy, it certainly deserves to be!
Tulip humilis 'Norah's pink blooms with their darker centers are sure to attract admiration, and you get the added benefit of several flowering seasons as long as the bulbs have been planted in well-drained soil. It’s definitely not a variety you’ll find just anywhere.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
