Tulip 'Moon Mist' is a double tulip with the sort of colouring that makes you lean in, then lean in again just to check you have understood it properly. Its layered blooms open with creamy outer petals brushed in plum, green and soft pink, while the inner petals reveal a misty lavender-purple heart. The effect is quietly dramatic, like moonlight meeting a watercolour wash. As the flowers mature, Tulip 'Moon Mist' becomes increasingly textured and intriguing, with each bloom showing its own painterly blend of tones. In borders or containers, Tulip 'Moon Mist' brings a sophisticated, slightly mysterious note to late spring displays.
Grow Tulip 'Moon Mist' in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position, planting the bulbs in autumn for flowers the following spring. Its unusual mix of cream, green, plum and lavender pairs beautifully with blue forget-me-nots, purple alliums, white narcissi and fresh spring foliage, creating a scheme with depth but no unnecessary fuss. Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
