Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.

Tulip mauritiana
'Cindy'
Tulip mauritiana 'Cindy' is the kind of rare beauty that gardeners dream of: a late-flowering species, originally from the Savoy region of eastern France, first described in 1858 and rediscovered in 1979. This hybrid of a wild alpine tulip is not only rare but also a treat to behold. The primrose yellow blooms are enhanced with delicate red flames and markings along the edges of the petals, offering a subtle yet captivating display of colour. Tulip mauritiana 'Cindy' stands out with its unique blend of elegance and simplicity, making it a stunning addition to any garden.
As a very late bloomer, Tulip mauritiana 'Cindy' can be paired beautifully with other wild species like Tulipa aximensis to create a natural, woodland-style garden. It thrives in well-drained soil and a sunny spot, bringing a pop of colour when other tulips are long gone. Its striking flowers are perfect for adding bright spots to lawns or flowerbeds, where they’ll stand out without overwhelming the rest of your plants. If you’re looking for something different, Tulip mauritiana 'Cindy' offers a rare opportunity to bring a little-known, eye-catching variety into your garden. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy this unique hybrid—it’s a true gem for any collector or enthusiast.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
