Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Lorenzo'
Tulip 'Lorenzo' is one of those tulips that seems to catch and hold the light, its double flowers opening in warm peach-orange tones brushed with lively streaks that give every bloom a slightly different character. Richly layered rather than overly formal, Tulip 'Lorenzo' has a full, rounded shape that brings a softer, more romantic mood to spring planting, while still feeling fresh and contemporary. The broad, grey-green leaves provide a calm, elegant base for the flowers, setting off their warmth beautifully. At around 40cm tall, Tulip 'Lorenzo' sits comfortably in borders, pots and cutting gardens, where its colouring can be appreciated at close quarters.
Flowering in early to mid-spring, Tulip 'Lorenzo' is particularly valuable for its staying power, holding its handsome double blooms well as the season gathers pace. It blends beautifully with dusky apricots, soft creams and plum shades, but also has enough presence to stand confidently on its own. Because the flowers are so generously petalled, Tulip 'Lorenzo' adds texture as well as colour, giving planting schemes a more sumptuous feel without tipping into excess. For anyone looking to bring a painterly, long-lasting tulip into the garden, Tulipa 'Lorenzo' is a wonderfully polished choice, offering warmth, substance and just the right amount of spring indulgence.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
