There’s just so much to love about it—long, strong stems are each topped with large gleaming white blooms, the fringed edges of each petal look like they’ve been laced with a rosy-pink frosting. There’s plenty of detail to admire in each flower with its dip-dye appearance. Whilst there’s uniformity from flower to flower, up close you’ll see those tiny hap-hazard sparky edges which are really rather quirky. The overall effect is gleaming perfection and these sweet little ladies will brighten your planting scheme or floral arrangements in the most cheerful of ways.
Typically flowering during April, Tulip 'Lady Smile' combines well with tulips in complementing tones, such as mauve, pink or near-black. You’ll also find this works well with April-flowering daffodils like 'Thalia', 'Carice' or 'Pink Charm'. Whether you decide to grow these in patio contains, borders or a gravel garden, make sure you plant plenty because it’ll be difficult to resist snipping some stems to enjoy in a vase!

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
