Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Janet'
Tulip 'Janet' is an elegant spring-flowering tulip with a quietly refined presence that rewards a closer look. At first glance, the blooms of Tulip 'Janet' appear soft ivory white, lending a calm, luminous quality to pots, borders and carefully planted drifts. As each flower opens wider, however, a dramatic heart is revealed, marked by a rich red ring with yellow and black at the centre. That little flourish gives Tulip 'Janet' a surprising theatrical streak, rather like a well-mannered guest who turns out to be the life of the party. Reaching around 25cm, it is compact, graceful and wonderfully easy to place.
Because of its neat height and poised silhouette, Tulip 'Janet' suits the front of borders, spring bedding displays and decorative containers where every detail can be admired. It also makes an excellent cut flower, bringing its polished beauty indoors just when the garden is beginning to stir. Used among pastel companions, Tulip 'Janet' feels serene and sophisticated, while planted with darker shades it gains striking contrast and depth. There is a versatility to Tulip 'Janet' that makes it especially useful for stylish spring schemes, whether your garden leans towards romance, order or something in between. In every setting, Tulipa 'Janet' brings harmony, colour and a composed sort of charm.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
