Plant tulip bulbs from October to mid-December, once the weather has cooled. Until then, store them somewhere cool, dry and safely away from mice and squirrels.
'Honky Tonk'
Tulip 'Honky Tonk' is a subtle charmer, its softly coloured blooms bringing a gentle luminosity to the spring garden. The outer petals of Tulip 'Honky Tonk' are washed in pale yellow, delicately touched with a faint pink blush that lends each flower a quiet warmth. As the blooms open, Tulip 'Honky Tonk' reveals a clear, buttery-yellow interior, creating a pleasing contrast that feels fresh and understated. Flowering in mid to late spring, it weaves effortlessly into planting schemes, particularly alongside other soft tones where Tulip 'Honky Tonk' enhances rather than competes.
Reaching a modest 20 to 25cm in height, Tulip 'Honky Tonk' is ideal for the front of borders, rockeries and containers, where its refined colouring and compact habit can be fully appreciated. The gently undulating, grey-green foliage adds further interest, giving Tulip 'Honky Tonk' a naturalistic quality that suits informal plantings beautifully. It is also well suited to naturalising, returning reliably when planted in a favourable spot. Whether in small clusters or larger drifts, Tulip 'Honky Tonk' offers a soft, harmonious presence that rewards close attention.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, 15–20cm deep and around 10cm apart. You can leave a little more space between them in borders.
Water once after planting to settle the soil. Border-grown tulips rarely need further watering, but containers should be kept lightly moist and never waterlogged.
Remove faded flowers, then allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally. This helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
